Volunteer with Minds for Health in Kolkata, India
Minds for Health are a recently-affiliated Medsin Activity, which aims to tackle mental illness and poverty in Low and Middle Income Countries. Every year we assist 10-15 volunteers to live and work in a Psychiatric Establishment (Antara) in Kolkata, India, for placements of five weeks or more.
Volunteers are an integral part of our ongoing support and development as an organisation. We expect volunteers:
- To offer direct support by involvement in therapy and care (as skills allow), being alongside patients, introducing new skills or programmes, or conducting research for Antara.
- To assist Friends of Antara UK by gathering case-studies, writing reports or helping to develop proposals for funding priorities.
- To be involved in our general or local committees in the UK on their return.
See www.medsin.org to find out more information, and to download the application form. NB The deadline for Undergraduate (or summer placements) is 26th November, the year before the placement. (31st December for Medical Electives).
