Homed

Mission statement: “To raise awareness about homelessness and social exclusion amongst healthcare students and the wider community.”
HOMED is a Medsin project that targets homelessness and the problems associated with it by working with students and local charities to raise funds and awareness. We run two annual events. The Christmas appeal involves collecting items for a welcome pack to donate newly housed service users. The Sleep Out is a sponsored event where students sleep rough for one night in the city centre to raise money for the local charity Action Homeless. Last year we raised over £2300 and this year’s event has raised almost £1800 so far! We also run talks sessions and film nights at the university to educate students about the problem surrounding homelessness. From September we will be running a new programme that allows students to visit homeless shelters and talk to individuals who are seeking help and on their way to getting their lives back on track.
